In the past, most dentists used silver amalgam fillings to repair cavities. People who have these fillings often experience temperature sensitivity at the site of fillings. Over time, the amalgams often blacken, and they may even discolor the surrounding tooth structure.
At Eastpark Dental, we place only white fillings, which are also known as resin or composite fillings. These fillings restore some of the original strength of a tooth, whereas silver fillings can actually cause weakening. We are pleased to show patients the final results of our work, because they can immediately see that their teeth look restored and not just “patched-up.”
The dental profession is moving toward this type of filling as a standard. And the technology that goes into making resins more durable and esthetic is always improving.
